Weak Signals... (extract from a presentation I gave in 2010)

“…a weak signal is

1. an idea or trend that will affect how we do business, what business we do, and the environment in which we will work

2. new and surprising from the signal receiver's vantage point (although others may already perceive it)

3. sometimes difficult to track down amid other noise and signals

4. a threat or opportunity to you or your organization

5. often scoffed at by people who “know”

6. usually has a substantial lag time before it will mature and become mainstream, and therefore

7. represents an opportunity to learn, grow and evolve.”
